Remodelling Your Jewellery

Susan’s Ring Remake

The jewellery design process – remodelling your jewellery

Jewellery doesn’t have to look a certain way for a lifetime, in fact gemstones and gold can often be reused or added to, to modernise and change a design completely. At Abrecht Bird we hand make our jewellery in our onsite workshop. This enables us to work closely with clients in creating the perfect one of a kind piece that reflects their personal flair and style – while fitting in their budget.

Susan has been a long standing client of Abrecht Bird and recently had a ring remodelled by our jeweller Eleanor.

The ring was previously only set with diamonds and Susan wanted to introduce some colour into the design, taking what was a very classic design and transforming it into something more modern.

Together Eleanor and Susan sketched out a number of ideas to modify her ring using princess cut rubies and her existing brilliant cut diamonds.

The process of remaking a piece of jewellery

The existing ring was taken apart; the brilliant and baguette cut diamonds unset, ready to be put into the new ring.

We offer our clients the opportunity to begin the process of hand making their own jewellery in our ‘Workshop Experience’. For Susan this involved rolling out the white gold for her ring to the dimensions needed for Eleanor to bend and solder into the initial ring shape.

Once the ruby ring section was rounded up and hammered to the correct size of Susan’s finger.

Eleanor then marked out and carved the channel settings for the rubies and a central recess created to house the centre baguette diamond setting.

Once the rubies were channel set the centre diamond setting was soldered into position. Eleanor then hand made the two diamond bands to go either side of the ruby section.

The diamonds were micro claw set into the two bands. Before the three separate rings could be joined, a final emery and polish was needed.

Here is the final finished ring, hand made for durability and custom designed for individuality.  Susan can now say she helped make this ring too!
